Components of the NRM Toolbar

The NRM Toolbar is a set of online tools and databases that make it easier for NRM professionals to find and share information.

Browser Toolbar

The NRM Toolbar is a toolbar add-on for use with Internet Explorer or Firefox. Once downloaded, the NRM Toolbar provides a single point of access to the NRM Search Engine, and the various databases and tools available on the NRM Toolbar website. The NRM Toolbar can be downloaded from this webpage. All NRM Toolbar products and services can be accessed without the use of the Broswer Toolbar.

NRM Search Engine

The NRM Search Engine allows Australian NRM professionals to conduct internet searches that search across hand-picked Australian NRM websites. The NRM Search Engine's advantage over generic search engines is that it only delivers results from high quality websites thereby increasing the relevance of search results.

Decision support tools

The Decision support tools (DST) database lists DST's of relevance to NRM practitioners and researchers. Each tool is listed with a short description, an indication of the scale at which it is applied at and a link to the most official online information about it. The list can be searched via the theme of the tool and/or the type of tool and type of decision being made.

E-networks

A list of electronic newsletters and online discussion forums that deal with NRM related topics.

Events

The Knowledge for Regional NRM Programme guarantees that the events published online at over 40 NRM organisation websites will be collated on this list of events. If you would like to list an event please use the 'submit an event' form online or contactus@nrmtoolbar.net.au to make an on-going arrangement for listing. Events currently covered by this service can be viewed here.

Professional bodies

A list of professional bodies that may be of interest to NRM professionals.

Knowledge Needs database

The Knowledge Needs Database is a way for regional NRM bodies to communicate their knowledge and research questions to research organisations. The Knowledge for Regional NRM Team will search for existing information that addresses these research questions and contact regions when multiple regions identify similar research gaps.

Services and products to be added in the future

More services and tools will be added to this website and the NRM Toolbar in the future. Please take a look at our development plans and let us know what you think.

Who runs the NRM Toolbar?

The NRM Toolbar is a part of the Knowledge for Regional NRM Programme at Land & Water Australia.

Who funds the NRM Toolbar?

The Australian Government through the Natural Heritage Trust.

Who developed the NRM Toolbar?

The concept design was produced by Mat Silver from the Knowledge for Regional NRM Programme with contributions from current and past Programme team members, in particular, Dr Belinda Lovell.

Technical oversight was provided by a Technical Advisory Group with representation from a number of National R&D organisations. Kaz Group Pty Ltd conducted a feasibility assessment and costing estimate of the NRM Search Engine.

Many Regional NRM Bodies participated in the evaluation of the concept prior to development. Thankyou to all parties that were involved in the concept design and evaluation phases.

Development of the NRM Toolbar has involved the following organisations:

  • Education.au limited - NRM Search engine and site graphic design
  • Agileware Pty Ltd - knowledge needs database and browsing filters
  • Sitepoint - logo design
  • Land & Water Australia - database building and Project Management

Thankyou to all these organisations for their efforts.
